Details of the course

Greetings from CSTERC,

Chiguru center for Science & Technology Education, Research, and Communication initiated a project on the identification and analysis of Asteroids. The program comprises an online training workshop followed by a month-long campaign to find true signatures of Asteroids.

Training focuses on image analysis of asteroids taken from the Pan-stars Telescope located in Hawaii Observatory. The participants will get a chance to identify Asteroids from the high-quality data. This workshop usually takes 2 - 2.30 Hours a week. The date and time will be fixed mutually based on the students' availability.

Stage I: The training workshop consists of technical sessions on Astrometry, Digital Sky Survey, Astronomical Software, Software calibration, Automatic & manual search techniques, Image processing techniques & Analysis.  Practice image sets will be provided for a month.

Stage II:  After completion of successful training & practice all the participants will receive a training certificate from CSTERC.  All the trained students will participate in the International Asteroid Search Campaign. At the end of the campaign, all the participants will receive certificates from IASC.

Requirement:  Laptop/Desktop with Windows operating system Eligibility: Students from 6th std and above can participate. (Basically, they need to have the basic knowledge to operate COmputer)

Registration fee: Rs.2000

(Note: The registration fee is only for the training workshop. The IASC campaign is completed open to all with free of cost. The fees will not limit any students to participate in the Asteroid Search program. Interested students can approach us directly to have training without fees. Those students will get 100% scholarship to participate in the programme)
