What is Moon Festival?
The Moon Festival, is a locally hosted overnight event as part of NASA's “International Observe the Moon Night,2021”.  Chiguru CoLab (A Techno-Science cooperative functioning from Bangalore, intervening majorly in Space Science Education & Research) is hosting this Moon Festival to encourage science enthusiasts around Bangalore to observe & explore lunar science research.

What to expect?
1. Star gazing assisted by astronomy experts through a 5inch (0.13 m) Celestron. Celestron is a Newtonian Reflector Equatorial mount telescope, which lets us watch the Moon, a few planets and stars.

2. Camp fire

3. Trekking with natives and explore local history

4. Games & fun activities

5. Locally cooked food

6. Tent stay for the night

7. Peacocks, monkeys, fresh air and what not :)

Where is this happening?
A village called Durgadahalli,  located on the foothills of Devarayandurga in Tumakuru district. The region is encircled by a cluster of rocky hills and thick forests, which provides plenty of routes for casual treks. The venue also has a dark range sky compared to Bangalore city to observe various night sky objects.

When?
11.00 AM, 30th October  to 2.00 PM, 31st October.

Language:
All sessions will be conducted in English. We also speak Kannada, Tamil, Malayalam and Telugu, so don't worry, we've got you!

Who can participate?

  • Students & Adults (14+ to 50 years old) can participate in this programme.

  • Kids above 10 should be accompanied by a parent or a guardian.

  • Children of age 0-10 years are not allowed.

  • COVID-19 Protocol: All participants are advised to be vaccinated and should abide by the COVID-19 protocols.

The Moon Festival:
The programme comprises a guided tour of the Moon (on 16th October 2021 the waxing gibbous phase of Moon with 83% luminosity), planets (Jupiter, Saturn & Venus) and other celestial objects (Star clusters, Nebula etc)*# using Celestron made 5inch (0.13 m) Newtonian Reflector Equatorial mount telescope.
